An Email from Francisco Kit

Maya farms was generating their own electricity using manure from their livestock for another example aside from SMC.  A zero waste advocate mother of my friend, a nurse by profession whose husband was a heart surgeon at the Chinese General Hospital had a simple bio-digester that produced one hour of cooking gas for their double burner gas stove for every kilo of any organic waste fed into the bio-digester.

We are still to do some pencil pushing  to compute the BTU to HP via a boiler to power a steam engine to generate electricity.  GE howoever already has in the market a machine that generate electricity enough even for 10.000 households using bio-gas from animal manure.

Black outs as distinguished from brownouts have occured both in the US and RP and many other countries due to a centralized system of electricity generation.  There is trend now for buidldings to integrate power generation in Japan and Germany much so that there are building there that generate more than they consume and contribute to the power grid the excess electricity these buildings generate... why can't this be our model?

The ultimate reason why such is not being advocated for is that big capitalist money would not be needed and opportunities to make a buck for big capitalist is lost and follows also big kurakots for corrupt public officials involved in power generation loses their milking cows.

Last I've heard of costings for solar electricity generation is that a solar panel to produce one watt cost Php 700.00 that puts Andrews costings practically on the dot.  There was news though that this may have been brought down by a Spanish company that began operating here in the country and is the biggest (somewhere in my files) and has brought down cost.  Can't rely much on this technology also as to being cost efficiently used in the country.

A friend put up a seven storey boiler using "bagasse" (rice husk) as energy source and is now on line producing 54 megawatts of power that is now on line in the Negros power grid.  Perhaps this is the future for the country since we are endowed with a bountifully productive land where we almost can plant anything and they grow lushly throughout most of our country.

I may have put my foot in my mouth with Andrew when accusing him of a general denouncement but I take his word for it that perhaps he may have qualified his denouncement of the Catholic bishops but do not have time at this point to go reread his past post.

For anyone interested for an update on the Catholic Church stand on issues and which is the general guide for decisions officially pronounced, Vatican II documents the PCP II promulgated resolutions and the new official Catholic Catechism can give an idea on the general guidelines in which the Catholic Church operates within.  All pronouncements in all the documents and teaching found in the catechism are all in line with the teachings of the Holy Scriptures.

One can also check out the blogs of the Bishops for their stand on the issues of which concerns morality and the nurturing  and respecting the dignity and sanctity of life.  The blogs are interactive so anyone can pose questions of which can be replied.

The officials of the Catholic Church is not against development but rather such should be diligently pursued with the pract5ice of prudence that the objective of improving the quality of life may not be negated by the unwanted bad effects of pursuing a development project as in mining minerals and metals.  Why pursue such development projects when the ill effects outweigh the good points.  It would be prudent to predetermine and put the necessary control systems to check any potential ill effect of any project and with the case of some, Church officials who have studied the matter have opted to call for a halt to proposed project as they see ill effects outweigh the good ones.

Catholic Church officials do the studies quite professionally.  Have known this since I read on of the reports calling for the prevention of a mineral water company of pumping water from a major quifer in Indang, Cavite wherein a JICA funded study showed that by pumping so much water two baranggays of Indang would run dry.  there were seven underground rivers to be affected that would also worsen the already bad lowering of the underground water table of which already the surrounding areas of Silang, Trece Martires, Amadeo, Gen. Trias and Alfonso have experienced an underground water table drop of up to 37 meters. It shows that the Maragondon watershed cannot supply the water requirement steadily rising as more and more subdivisions are sprouting in the area. This water level drop has also cuased the srteady increase in salination of water now reaching up to Las Pinas and totally made underground water in Pque much to saline for consumption as the water aquifer system from the Margondon watershed actually is the source of underground water up to Manila Bay and the China sea. Do the government care and take precautionary measure to this imminent catastrophe?

Guess you would know the answer to this question.

As for the drying up of the two Indang baranggays,  the change of parish priest in Indang allowed RFM to put up its mineral water plant (brand name Hidden Springs) and did the two baranggays in of which agriculture activities in the areas seized and landowners selling off to land developers and or developing the place themselves as subdivision.

Who would have enough guts and enough clout to face these huge monsters destroying our country.  I believe that officials of the Catholic Church denouncing and/or working to prevent the abuse of mother nature and of the Filipino people is right, good and proper.
